8A- Solving the Problem
The problem I’ve worked on for this assignment has been that people have a
general distrust and bored with the media. The problem is that the media is traditional,
and are owned by larger corporations with distinct interests. The solution? To diversify
media in a way that makes it more democratic and less biased. The solution: a
modern media. An email newsletter designed for young people, aged 15-24 who want
to be informed and educated in a manner that won’t put them to sleep or
convince them into partisanship. The newsletter will be written by students for
students and will be thoroughly checked against a qualified panel for bias. A
certain threshold of the panel will need to approve the stories before they are
sent out, and the business should be run without the intent of being for-profit, this allows us to decentralize away from business interests. The
newsletter will be free and will sustain itself off of donations and advertisements.
Hi Ty, I'm really interested in your suggestion. This reminds me of the traditional Chinese crosstalk. It's as traditional and serious as the media. But in the process of social development. People tend to receive information in a relaxed atmosphere so it's important to incorporate something young and energetic. If instead written by students for students, combined with a comprehensive examination by a panel of qualified experts, not only the quality can be improved, but also the interest of young people in reading can be aroused.
